The British Furniture Confederation (BFC) today chaired a meeting between DEFRA and its association members including the British Contract Furnishing Association (BCFA), National Bed Federation (NBF), Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA), the Furniture Industry Environment Committee (FIEC) and the British Furniture Manufacturers Association (BFM) to discuss the industry’s concerns over proposed amendments to its guidance note (PG1/12 (04)) for wood combustion plants, which threaten to impose commercially damaging new limits on particle and carbon monoxide emissions.
“The meeting was very constructive and encouraging and produced a number of new, more workable proposals,” said Dr Pete Beele, BFC company secretary who chaired the meeting. Full details of the various proposals and options will be circulated to members of all the bodies represented in the next few weeks with a view to achieving an industry consensus view for DEFRA on the preferred route forward.
